Indonesia is a diverse and culturally rich country known for its stunning landscapes, vibrant cities, and hospitable people. However, hidden among the bustling streets and picturesque scenery are abandoned places that offer a glimpse into the country's past and evoke a sense of mystery and intrigue. As part of a survey contribution, we set out to uncover some of Indonesia's most fascinating abandoned sites, seeking to understand their history and significance in the local context. Our journey took us from the urban jungles of Jakarta to the remote corners of Java and Bali, where we encountered a wide range of abandoned places with unique stories to tell. One of the most striking abandoned sites we came across was an old colonial mansion nestled in the heart of Jakarta. Once a grand residence for a Dutch plantation owner, the mansion now stands in ruins, its faded walls and overgrown garden offering a haunting reminder of Indonesia's colonial past. Further afield, we ventured into the countryside of Java, where we discovered an abandoned sugar mill that had once been the lifeblood of a local community. Now a ghostly shell of its former self, the mill's rusting machinery and crumbling buildings spoke to a bygone era of industrialization and economic hardship. Traveling to the island of Bali, we stumbled upon a deserted resort nestled along the coast, its empty swimming pools and decaying bungalows a stark contrast to the island's tourist-filled beaches. As we walked through the overgrown grounds, we couldn't help but wonder about the resort's sudden abandonment and the stories of the people who had once called it home. Through our survey contribution, we gained a deeper appreciation for Indonesia's abandoned places and the role they play in preserving the country's history and heritage. These forgotten sites serve as reminders of Indonesia's complex past, from its colonial legacy to the rapid modernization that has transformed its landscape in recent decades. As we continue our exploration of Indonesia's abandoned places, we invite you to join us on this journey of discovery and reflection.
